Role on the Board: Board member representing Vitality Health

Role and organisation (non CCSD): Head of Clinical Coding: Vitality Health

Experience: I have extensive experience of clinical coding in the UK and South Africa, specifically in private healthcare insurance but with exposure to NHS and international coding classifications. I continue to be involved in the successful implementation of clinical coding structures and tools to support robust clinical risk decision-making, analysis and reporting  within Vitality.

Recent/upcoming CCSD project you are most excited about: The mapping of CCSD to OPCS is an important piece of work that will be of significant value in the healthcare industry in the UK, providing a standardised and up to date version available to the market, and improving interoperability in healthcare data across public and private sectors.

I am fascinated by the geometry of Gothic architecture and Celtic knotwork, and how so many of the designs and features can be drawn with ruler and compass alone. A highlight of my year in 2024 was attending a course on how to draw the rose window at Lyon Cathedral, and being able to pretend to be an art student for the week!

Matt Calver

Role on the Board: Board Member

Role and organisation (non CCSD): Sustainability Manager, Aviva Health

Experience: Qualified as a RGN in 1987, worked predominantly in NHS intensive care until joining the independent sector in 2002, where have worked in a variety of governance, risk and hospital leadership roles leading up to the last 5 years for Aviva Insurance.

Recent/upcoming CCSD project you are most excited about: The use of robust procedure coding to drive evidence based practice and the achievement of good clinical outcome for customers.  I look forward to using clinical coding in my passion for driving sustainability in the sector.

When I’m not at work I’m outside – cycling, sailing, walking the dogs, trying to grow plants to eat.  In the winter when its dark, I read about doing those things and sleep to dream about them.

John Shepherd

Jenny Murray

Since then I’ve evolved with a strong focus on customer care – these days I’m dedicated to bringing the voice of the customer into our various Products. Its been an exciting journey so far!

Recent/upcoming CCSD project you are most excited about: The CCSD Robotics schedule. It’s a fantastic initiative that highlights CCSD’s leadership in the sector and reinforces our commitment to uniting the industry.

On the professional side, I’m honored to head up our charitable partnership with the Rainbow Trust childrens charity, who do incredible work with seriously ill children and their families. From a personal perspective, I cant be without indoor cycling classes – they serve as a wonderful therapy for me.
